Denture Epulis Tissue Removal

Ill fitting dentures that are reported to "pinch" the underside of the upper or lower lip(s) is not something that should be disregarded nor assumed to be something that "goes away" or "gets better" in a few weeks.

Epulis Fibrous Gingival Hyperplasia
Denture Caused Trauma
An Epulis is very similar to and a unique condition of gingival hyperplasia that can be caused by an external event, condition or stimulus.

Unwanted gum tissue overgrowth occurs in many different areas of dentistry and dental treatments. For denture wearers, the common stimulus of friction, abrasion or pinching can cause unwanted growth of this fibrous tissue.

The degree of tissue growth as it appears in the adjacent photo now requires treatment.

Periodontal Lasing versus Conventional Treatment

Excess tissue can be removed with a choice of methods. The conventional method of excising tissue with a scalpel is efficient but does have a traumatic value along with the requirement (in many cases) that suturing be provided to optimize healing of the tissues.

Periodontal Laser technologies enable the specialist to remove the unwanted tissue with the least invasive procedure available today..... self cauterizing laser ablatement.

Fast, efficient, almost imperceptible treatment that requires a minimum, if any, of topical anesthetic medication. Self cauterizing essentially means that all modified tissues are "sealed" against common potentials for inflammation or infection.

Healthy Normalized Tissue

The adjacent photo shows the remarkable effects of laser based tissue removal.

The elimination of the need for suturing and extra healing time enabled this denture patient to continue wearing the denture with assurance of proper soft tissue healing.

Periodontal laser procedures for tissue removal in the anterior areas of the oral cavity have proven to be the treatment of choice for patients with a variety of tissue removal needs.

Epulis Frequency

Fibrous tissue growth that occurs due to ill fitting dentures is a condition that is far too frequent. The "pinching" of soft tissues is not something to be ignored.

For new denture wearers, especially, adjustments to make a denture feel comfortable and natural may require numerous visits with the dentist.

New denture replacements for existing denture patients may cause a similar event.

Early intervention normally assures the fibrous tissue doesn't develop which, in all likelihood, may require additional treatments. In the event treatment is indeed required, today's laser instruments can quickly remove the tissue with little or no discomfort for the patient.

Self cauterizing tissue removal all but guarantees that infection is a non-event.

Frenectomies, tongue frenectomies, ulcer removal, treatments for ortho related gingival hyperplasia and, as demonstrated here, respond favorably to laser treatments. The minimally invasive features of laser dentistry minimize or eliminate the need for anesthetics and are quick to administer... oftentimes without the patient's awareness of progress.

Treatments that are prosthodontic in nature are increasingly incorporating laser procedures that can facilitate tissue preparation and modifications with better efficiency and noninvasive features, compared to outdated traditional methods.
